Yellow!

This month we escape to the Amalfi Coast, meeting in Positano and experiencing the luxury of one of the world’s most captivating coastlines.

Think of the lemons in Sorrento, the heat of the intense summer sun, sun shades on the beach, Limoncellos, San Pellegrino, lemon sorbet and more.  This month’s colour just had to be yellow.  Think glamour, Gina Lollobrigida, Grace Kelly and Cary Grant, open top cars, head scarves and coastal drives, romance....

As a knitter, and one who favours pink, yellow isn’t often found in my own stash and I can’t understand why. It’s uplifting, happy, adds colour to any outfit on the dullest of days.  Use it to lift blacks, and but also to blend with pinks, oranges and greens, we should use it more!

This month I am using a skein of merino singles to knit Scarf No1 by My Favourite Things Knitwear - because I love a simple bandana and because it can be worn as a cute headscarf which gives the best Amalfi Coast vibes!

When I visited Oslo yellow yarn was everywhere, and I see it as being a familiar colour in fashion in the next few seasons. I was over the moon knowing that this month's colour was going to be yellow!

Looking into the history of yellow what I didn’t know was that there is a shade of yellow called Naples yellow, indispensable to many artists including Salvador Dali.  Paul Cezanne was a huge fan of Naples yellow and on seeing another artist’s palette without the shade he exclaimed, “You paint with just these?” “Where is your Naples yellow?”

So, let's go to the Amalfi Coast.

And so on to our itinerary, I am going to share a route I took when my sister got married some years ago and we raced from Rome to Positano in time for the wedding.

Flying into Rome we take the high-speed train to Naples where we catch a bus to Sorrento and then another to Positano. If you have experienced the craziness of the Neapolitan  traffic you will be familiar with the relief of leaving the city and travelling along the coast.

Quick stop in Sorrento – change buses to Positano and are journey ends at the top of Via Columbo and we will meet at the Murad Hotel, limoncello waiting!

Palazzo Murad is a stunning 18th century palazzo once belonging to the King of Naples and Napoleon’s brother. We will meet in the palm and bougainvillea courtyard (the pink speckles in your yarn are reminiscent of those flowers) relax and catch up with some knitting shaded from the intense heat.

From here we spend days one and two meandering down from the hotel through the colourful streets to the beach and the shade of those magnificent parasols.

Day Three

Capri
It’s time to explore some more, we’re heading to Sorrento to take the boat to Caprl where we will stay for one night and enjoy another colour fuelled day; azure skies, lemon groves, bougainvillea terraces.  We take in the Fortress Walk, the Blue Grotto before dining in Capri town at Le Grottelle.

Day Four

Ischia
Leaving the blues and yellows of Capri we take another boat to explore Ischia, the green island.

This is a lush island known for it’s exotic gardens and forests. We take a light lunch at Ischia Porto and some time to knit, people and boat watch!

Day Five
One last night at the Hotel Murad in Positano before heading back to Rome, explore some more or head home to prepare for June’s trip?

Thank you for coming on this adventure with me, see you next month?  I wonder where?
