Hello and Merry Christmas!

I just wanted to take the opportunity to say Merry Christmas and thank you for your support this year. It has been an absolute pleasure to interact with you in 2023, and boy have we had fun!

I would like to say thank you to…

I want to give a special thank you to Jane Murison (@yarnison on Instagram), who designed the amazing Cloudy Nora Shawl and the Banging Beanie. A huge amount of work goes into those designs: design, testing, tech editing, pattern layout and distribution, just to name a few tasks. A huge thank you to Jane.  Lots of you loved selecting yarn for Cloudy Nora this year, and it has been fab seeing this design being knit in so many colour variations.

Jane will hate this recognition, so please give her a follow on her Ravelry store and take a peek at her patterns.

If I have met you at a show, it is possible you will have met some of my family too.  My kids have come to help, and without that help I think I would have been hard-pushed!  Lily spent hours building the Meccano that was my stand at Yarndale and loved meeting so many fab customers.

Harry came to help at Cumbrian Wool Gathering, arriving from Glasgow at 1am on the Saturday morning and learned all about BFL, boucle, and Ravelry on the hoof, and charmed many!  I think it’s good for kids to see what goes into making a business work, and I think they will be seeking secure employment with a pension elsewhere - my cunning plan might have worked.

My husband (Mr Mamie as he’s been titled - thank you Lucy Locket!) has unfailingly stood in the cold, rain, snow, and wind at Chorlton markets, and could be seen helping with heavy bags and grid walls, trying not to grimace while giving up his precious free time to help. Thank you!

And YOU!

As many of you know, this business has been something I intended to do since leaving textile college many years ago.  Reality meant it has taken this long to be able to make it happen, but it has been worth the wait.  Without your feedback, custom and footfall, Mamie and Florrie simply couldn’t be - so a huge, huge thank you.

This year, I have met amazing yarnies at shows and events who have become friends. I love catching up with you, sharing ideas and seeing what you have made with my yarn. I really look forward to meeting up again next year.

And thank you to my friends and family who listen to me float ideas, talk out loud while making only sense to myself, and humouring me and my yarn brain on a day to day basis. Thank you.

2024 Plans

I have lots of plans to share with you soon, some fab ventures such as new stockists and open studio events, as well as new range growth and exciting sourcing plans and much more!

I will be kicking off my 2024 events with Unravel in February, where I know I will meet some Instagram friends in real life! I can’t wait.

Behind the scenes this year, I have been working with students at Nottingham Trent University, and I am looking forward to working with them a little more next year as part of their MSc Business and Analytics programme.  It’s just a very small contribution from me, but something I am passionate about.

See below for confirmed shows for next year, and I will be updating my Events and Stockists page on my website. Please keep an eye out here for updates.

In the meantime

There are a few kits left in my Christmas Gifting Guide on my website, so if you are looking for that small project for the early January days, have a little peek.

And if you have been as busy and last-minute as me and need a gift, you can give a Mamie and Florrie gift voucher; all is not lost!

I am now going to take some time with my family and wish you the very best Christmas time.  I know Christmas isn’t easy for everyone, so I also send love to those who are facing a difficult time.  I hope to see you in 2024, wishing for health, happiness, and many more yarn adventures to come.
