World Wide Knitting in Public Day - Saturday 8th June

It is World Wide Knitting in Public Day on Saturday 8th June which also coincides with Open Day at Mamie and Florrie.  It seems a shame not to celebrate, so why not pop in and say hello and bring your knitting?   I will be open from 10am to 4pm on Saturday, and if the weather is good, we can enjoy some knitting outdoors!

As this is the Peak District, I will be keeping a close eye on the weather forecast. Currently it does look dry and, fingers crossed, it will be a lovely day!

If you are visiting the area for the first time, there is also the Food and Arts at the Basin Market (you may see posters for the FAB Market - that’s it!) at the Transportation Warehouse at the Whaley Bridge Canal Basin.  There’s also the best kept secret of a wonderful second hand book and music shop in the Transportation Warehouse, so you should spend some time having a mooch there too.

I am also open on Wednesday 1pm - 4pm as normal, so if you can’t make it on Saturday, please feel free to pop along to say hello.

*Please note that my Open Days aren’t a dye studio tour. I do keep my working studio space closed for your safety due to the chemicals and heat sources required for dyeing.  Thank you so much for your kind understanding.

Buxton Wool Gathering

I was exhibiting at Buxton Wool Gathering a couple of weekends ago - although it feels like a lifetime ago! It was such a lovely weekend, the sun shone and we had a great time.  If you came to say hello in Buxton, thank you!

I am always so overwhelmed when people visit wearing beautiful garments made in my yarns. Thank you, and here’s a few!

From left to right:

Michelle knit a Carpe Diem Sweater by Laerke Bagger using Adventure Sock - Bluefaced Leicester Sock in Llandgai colourway.  Bluefaced Leicester Adventure sock is a great, strong 4-ply yarn and the best option for holding all of those stunning beads. Michelle was stopped by admirers so many times while visiting the event. I am not surprised!

Centre left, Sharon is wearing Rizz by Kuzo Knits, crocheted in boucle and mohair.  This is a super versatile pattern, perfect if you are looking for a great pattern for combining both textures together.  Sharon used Nefyn colourway and combined it with a gorgeous mohair from Peak District Yarns.

Carolyne (centre right) knits mohair like a genius mohair knitter does. Carolyne buys super bright colourways and combines those colours beautifully, just whipping up another jumper as she does, they are amazing!

Right - I am so sorry. I have forgotten the name of my gorgeous customer here.  I will call you Gorgeous.  Gorgeous visited my stand last year and bought some Swim Party at Combs mohair, and returned this year wearing a gorgeous sweater Lace and Fade Boxy by Joji Locatelli.

Thank you!

New Crochet Pattern Alert

Inspired by the knitted Cloudy Nora Shawl by Jane Murison, the super talented crochet designer Zeens and Roger has designed Cirrus. Isn’t it stunning?  Just as Cloudy Nora uses a skein each of boucle and mohair, so does Cirrus, creating a light and gentle shawl perfect for summers.  So if you are a crocheter and not a knitter, you can create this stunning diaphanous shawl - holiday perfect.

Thank you Rosina, for choosing to work with Mamie and Florrie yarns. I love Rosina’s work. Please check out her library on Ravelry for more fab crochet designs.

As seen in Vogue

I do promise a newsletter full of ideas and tips very soon. In the meantime I can’t resist sharing these stunning crochet ideas I know you be inspired by - as seen in Vogue feature May 2024

I love this feature from Miss Vogue in 2021 with great summer crochet ideas.  The sandals are so easy to customise. I found myself looking for plain sandals. There are so many out there waiting to be crocheted!

The Mamie and Florrie Book Nook

I’ve a book corner growing at the Mamie and Florrie Studio, which includes some gorgeous crochet books for your indulgence if you’re inspired by Vogue!  From crochet bikinis to cute toys and more sophisticated knitting, I have a lovely collection growing and available to purchase.

This also includes a couple of copies of The Friday Night Knitting Club by Kate Jacobs. If you haven’t read this, it is worth a holiday read.  All of us are hidden in that story somewhere!

As I write this, these aren’t available on my website just yet, but please drop me an email if something catches your eye.  Books will be available at the Cumbrian Wool Gathering too.

Coming Soon!

It is, it’s coming very soon!

I can’t wait to be back in at the Cumbrian Wool Gathering - it’s a fab show and easily accessible from the M6 at the Rural Auction Centre, near Kendal.  Website details are linked below, so if you haven’t got your ticket, there is still time. I am in full dye plan mode, stocking up after a lovely Buxton Show.
