August Subscription - The Great British Bank Holiday

August Subscription - The Great British Bank Holiday

We are celebrating the Great British Bank Holiday!

Every journey starts at home.

Sometimes we are blissfully unaware of what we have on our doorstep!

The world is a wonderfully fascinating place, getting more accessible and smaller each year. It's amazing to be able to travel to so many places but sometimes we don't see what we have at home.  So this month we are celebrating the Great British Bank Holiday at the seaside.

Think buckets and spades, ice cream vans on the prom, beach huts, windbreaks and piers. It's bright, brash and fun and sometimes we need to let go and remember just how wonderful it is.

So, in August we are meeting in Wells Next the Sea on the beautiful Norfolk coast. This is an easy break; we have travelled a lot this year so we are resting, knitting and enjoying each others company. I will also share some of my favourite British seaside resorts for quick escapes - with yarn of course!

Wells : Day One
Our day time base; we are going to take a walk from Wells Maltings along the estuary to Pinewoods,  over the dunes and to our beach huts.

I have reserved several, just choose your favourite colour- each one is uniquely painted, I am sure you will find your favourite. These are ours to knit, rest, eat there and use as our day bases while we enjoy the beach. This weekend break is all about inhaling the last of the sunshine before Autumn is here.

We are staying in a windmill in Clay.  On our first evening we of course go to Wells for traditional bank holiday food, fish and chips from Plattens Fish and Chip Shop. before moving on to The Globe Pub for knitting and chatting - this is an easy break!

Day Two
An early start, we go to the Two Magpies Bakery to get pastries and coffee.  This bakery has the most delicious pastries and bread so I stock up to take us treats back to the beach huts.

Morning spent at the huts before visiting Holkham Hall. In the grounds of the hall there is an Adnams shop.  A couple of us scurry off there because their gin is wonderful, we stock up, it's rude not to.  They also sell gorgeous snacks and speciality foods...

Back to the huts with our snacks and gin for more knitting, then it's back to our windmill to freshen up for our last meal together this break.  The White Horse Gastro Pub in Brancaster Staithe, fabulous food and great views.

Day Three
Depart home, see you next month!

More of my favourites!

Whitley Bay and Tynemouth
I spent many a summers there with Mamie and always love to return.  The fun of The Spanish City, the Whitella ice cream and...

...of course, my favourite restaurant Rileys Fish Shack on the beach in Tynemouth.

Beaumaris - Anglesey
This has the pier, great ice cream, buckets and spades, neon and good fun.

Formby Beach
My local - miles away from home but my closest beach and I love it. And there's always an ice cream van waiting for me in the car park!  Essential!

Wherever you are this Bank Holiday, I hope this brought back a few nostalgic memories. It's all escapism and fun, the ice creams, fish and chips and fun of the fair.

See you next month and you will need your passport!
