A Quick Trip to Copenhagen

It has been some time now that I have been working with Geo-Metry, bringing the gorgeous Cocoons and Poppy Bags to the UK.

Georgiana, the owner of Geo-Metry, and I try to catch up for a virtual coffee where work loads allow.  It’s so important as a sole worker to catch up with another self-employed sole worker to share news and say hello and actually feel like you have colleagues!  But a virtual coffee is never as good as the real thing, and meeting in person is.

I took advantage of some super cheap flights and went to meet Georgiana and talk all things Cocoon and Poppy Bag, and yes, there will be more!

And of course I had to take a peek around some of the gorgeous yarn shops in Copenhagen.

If you visit here’s four I managed to get to with the help of hiring a Lime Bike for the day!

The Scandinavians naturally prefer a more muted colour palette to us Brits, but all I can say is the textures! The designs!  And yes, you will see some Danish influence making its way into the Mamie and Florrie range very soon.

Years ago I read The Year of Living Danishly - Uncovering the Secrets of the World’s Happiest Country by Helen Russell. Of course it fuelled my desire to visit Denmark and I have to say it is possibly the happiest place I have visited.  In the short time I was there, observations included: the light, after-work salsa, outdoor swimming in the city centre, the curbside café culture, and the super friendly people.

Here’s a very small glimpse of just that - click on the image below.

New Samples

Back to reality, and it really is full steam ahead in the studio.  The sample rail is filling up nicely with some gorgeous new samples, which I will be sharing with you very soon.

I am desperately racing to finish my latest Linus Shawl in my Tuticorin colourway - merino singles and mohair held together. Have a look at the TikTok video below.  And the fab location is Porth Wen Brickworks in Anglesey - well worth the visit!

Meanwhile, gorgeous Dorita has knit a Linus Shawl in the same colourway but replacing mohair with alpaca fluff - a brilliant alternative if you don’t like the feel of mohair.  It is also so warm and fluffy!

You know my love of the Laerke Bagger Ombre T-Shirt - I have knit another. They are quick to make, knit on 10mm needles, and so wearable. I totally recommend!

Danish designer Laerke doesn’t sell her patterns as individual patterns, preferring to include them in books with narrative. I do love her books, which are full of patterns in easily adaptable shapes. It will be my go-to book for years to come.

VIsit Mamie and Florrie at Yarndale

You can find me in stand K26 this year - see circled on the map below.  I am next to the café, workshop areas, toilets, and the exit. Yarndale is a big event, so I am pleased I can find my way to my stand easily! Come and say hello. My daughter Lily is helping me - thank you Lily!

Open Studio - September Dates

September is hurtling past at a rate of knots, but there are still a few more opportunities to come and visit my studio if you are in the area.  I appreciate that not everyone enjoys a busy yarn festival, so a studio visit is a great way to say hello in a quieter and more relaxed setting.
